November 9, 2008

OAK BROOK, Ill. — Global comparable-store sales at McDonald's Corp. rose 8.2 percent in October, the company announced. System-wide sales for McDonald's worldwide restaurants increased 5.4 percent for the month.

U.S. comparable sales increased 5.3 percent for the month, aided by product introductions, such as Southern Style Chicken and the continued popularity of McDonald's Monopoly game.

Comps in Europe increased 9.8 percent, while comps in Asia/Pacific, the Middle East and Africa were up 11.5 percent. Locally relevant menu choices, branded affordability and extended hours fueled the segment's October sales.
