Mexican QSR segment heats up spring menu

Several chains in the Mexican quick-service segment have fired up their spring menu rollouts, focusing on spicy or grilled offerings.
 
Del Taco has launched the new Santa Fe version of its popular Chicken Soft Taco that taps into the trend toward bolder flavors. The Santa Fe Chicken Soft Taco features Del Taco's signature marinated grilled chicken, lettuce and cheddar cheese with a new roasted corn and black bean salsa and Santa Fe sauce.
 
The Santa Fe Chicken Soft Taco, priced at $1.49, is available at participating Del Taco restaurants for a limited time only.
 
The Santa Fe Chicken Soft Taco will be promoted via Del Taco's multi-platform advertising campaign, including the brand's new Del Taco Super Special Show on its Facebook page. Del Taco's Facebook fans also can download a coupon on the "Free Chicken Soft Taco" tab for a free regular Chicken Soft Taco with any purchase.
 
Taco Bell is promoting its latest premium product rollout, the new limited-time only Tortada, available in two flavors: Bacon & Ranch and Salsa Roja.The Salsa Roja Tortada features a warm flour tortilla loaded with fire-grilled marinated all-white meat chicken, shredded lettuce, fiesta salsa, salsa roja, and a blend of three cheeses — cheddar, pepper jack, and mozzarella, all grilled together.The Bacon & Ranch Tortada also features marinated chicken and shredded lettuce as well as diced ripe tomatoes instead of salsa, and crispy bacon and avocado ranch sauce, also grilled.
 
The large tortilla pockets are halved diagonally, sandwich style. Taco Bell plays up the size and shape of the new Tortada in its latest commercial, Showdown. A man asks a male passerby in a threatening tone where he got his sandwich, to which he replies during a tight close up: "It's not a sandwich; it's a Tortada."
 
The Tortadas sells for $3.29 at participating locations.
 
Taco John's has brought back its limited-time only Grilled Stuffed Tacos. The overstuffed, grilled tortilla is filled with seasoned ground beef, nacho cheese and sour cream. The brand is promoting the Grilled Stuffed Tacos on its website and in its new "My Town, My Taco John's" -themed commercials.
