NRA reacts to failed immigration bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. —The National Restaurant Association today expressed extreme disappointment in the Senate's failure to continue consideration of immigration reform legislation.
"The Senate solved nothing today," said John Gay, association senior vice president of Government Affairs and Public Policy. "Millions still live in the shadows of our society while contributing to it, employers still face uncertainty about their labor force, and the borders remain unsecure. These issues are not going away and will have to be addressed."
The National Restaurant Association will continue lead in the national debate on comprehensive immigration reform, serving as co-chair of the Essential Worker Immigration Coalition (EWIC), which includes more than 40 national businesses and trade associations seeking reform of America's immigration system.
The motion to limit debate on S. 1639 and proceed to final passage failed by a vote of 46-53. During the vote, proponents of cloture were within a few votes of the 60 needed for the bill to move forward, but a number of Senators switched their votes when it became clear the measure would fail.
