N.Y. county considers levying fast-food tax
June 21, 2009
Newsday: Nassau County, N.Y., has proposed adding a 2 percent fast-food tax in its budget plans for next year to combat falling revenues during the economic downturn. The tax would exempt independent pizza places or Chinese food restaurants. The county estimates such a tax would bring in $11.8 million in 2010. However, the tax would require state authorization, approval that is considered unlikely.
The New York State Restaurant Association opposes the tax.
