Philadelphia McDonald's to promote active lifestyles

PHILADELPHIA — McDonald's Restaurants of the Greater Philadelphia Region Inc. will promote balanced, active lifestyles this fall with a series of Go Active! Academic Award check presentations and a Passport to Play tour stop throughout the greater Philadelphia region.
 
In its third year, the Go Active! Academic Awards program has benefited over 8,000 students and has granted $45,000 to local schools in an effort to encourage balanced active lifestyles. Out of the 15 local winners, the following four schools will participate in the special check presentation. All programs were selected on the basis of creativity, educational content, program effectiveness, cost effectiveness and clarity:
 
  • Ironton Elementary School, Coplay, Pa. (Winning program: Geomotion: Fitness and Dance)
  • Baltz Elementary School, Wilmington, Del. (Winning program: Trek)
  • Overbrook Educational Center, Philadelphia (Winning program: Visibly Fit)
  • Hedgepeth Williams School, Trenton, N.J. (Winning program: Roots)
 
McDonald's Passport to Play national tour will visit Mote Elementary School in Wilmington, Del., on Oct. 19 to teach 3rd-5th grade students games from around the globe. The program is designed to get children active in a fun, educational way while providing them with simple nutrition tips.
 
Both programs are part of McDonald's Balanced, Active Lifestyles initiative that seeks to encourage balanced, active lifestyles among children.
