Pizza Hut Canada has launched a new short-form podcast titled Bandwagon Hockey Coach to assist casual fans during the hockey playoffs.

The podcast debuted March 18 on Spotify and features two AI hosts. The program is designed to explain hockey rules and terminology in brief episodes released twice weekly, according to a press release.

The initiative follows a national survey commissioned by the company which found that 22% of English-speaking Canadians admit to faking hockey knowledge or looking up terms during games. The data also showed that 33% of respondents have identified as bandwagon fans, and 65% of regular hockey viewers have done the same.

"Playoff hockey is when everyone in Canada becomes a fan — whether you've watched every game all season or you're just jumping in now," Jennifer Ligotti, chief marketing officer at Pizza Hut, said in a statement. "At Pizza Hut, we know game night is about the people you're watching with and the food you're sharing — just as much as the action on the ice. The Bandwagon Hockey Coach is for the fans who love the excitement of the playoffs but might need a quick refresher before puck drop. Think of it as Pizza Hut's cheat sheet for game night, so you can focus on the fun, the friends, and the pizza."

The survey further indicated that 75% of English-speaking Canadians believe the playoffs should be a judgment-free zone for new fans. Additionally, 81% of respondents cited pizza as a top menu choice for watch parties.

Pizza Hut Canada has more than 600 locations. Globally, the brand has more than 19,500 restaurants in 110 markets and territories.
