Pizza Hut unveils Chicago tavern-style pizza, biggest toppings revamp in over decade

Pizza Hut unveiled its latest menu innovation, Chicago Tavern-Style Pizza, this week alongside its biggest toppings transformation in over a decade. The move marks Pizza Hut's position as the first global pizza chain to offer a Tavern-style pizza and introduce new permanent toppings like Chicken Sausage, Pesto Swirl and Spicy Sauce, according to a press release.

"These menu additions represent a bold step forward as part of our culinary mission to bring our guests modern innovation that embraces what we know our customers are loving and looking for in a pizza. Tavern is not just a pizza; it is a culinary trend that reflects the excitement of today's pizza scene," Rachel Antalek, chief food innovation officer at Pizza Hut, said in the press release. "We perfected these recipes to truly pay homage to Chicago and the hundred-year-old style in a modern way while pushing the boundaries of what's possible in a pizza with fresh new toppings and flavors."

The Chicago Tavern-Style Pizza features a thin, crispy crust cut into squares, reminiscent of the tavern-style pizzas that originated in Chicago in the 1930s. Pizza Hut offers four recipe variations: Pesto Margherita, The Ultimate, Spicy Chicken Sausage and Double Pepperoni.

Alongside the pizza style, Pizza Hut is revamping its toppings menu with eight permanent additions: Spicy Marinara Sauce, Pesto Sauce Swirl, Chicken Sausage, Fresh Diced Garlic, Grape Tomatoes, Caramelized Onions, Fire Roasted Peppers and Crispy Cupped Pepperoni. Customers can enjoy these toppings on the Chicago Tavern-Style Pizzas or add them to custom orders.

The four Chicago Tavern-Style Pizzas and create-your-own options start at $12 for a large pizza at participating Pizza Hut locations nationwide.
