Plant-based KFC sandwiches will be a permanent menu addition for KFC Canada on Aug. 10, a news release said. The company said that following "an incredibly successful pilot" with plant-based partner, Lightlife, last year, KFC has opted to press ahead with the menu addition.

"When we tested Plant-Based KFC by Lightlife late last year, we sold over a month's worth of sandwiches in six hours," KFC Canada CMO Samantha Redman, said in the release. "Seeing the extraordinary demand for Plant-Based KFC, we worked quickly to bring these menu items to our restaurants across Canada."

Plant-based KFC popcorn will also be available at Canadian KFC stores on Aug. 10, but that item will be on the menu as an LTO. The plant-based "chicken" sandwich is a permanent menu item, produced by Greenleaf Foods SPC, the owner of Lightlife.

KFC Canada has more than 600 locations. The brand, based in Louisville, Kentucky, has more than 23,000 restaurants in more than 140 countries and territories around the world.
