Pollo Campero charts 24% sales growth in 2016

February 3, 2017

Pollo Campero reported its fifth straight year of positive sales growth and its first year to cross the $100 million sales benchmark in the U.S., according to a news release. Total sales in 2016 grew 24 percent, while comparable sales jumped 8 percent.

"To see growth at a time when the restaurant industry is struggling is already a positive, but to experience 20 straight quarters with an average 8 percent growth rate is hard to do," President and CEO Tim Pulido, said in a news release. "Besides the challenging state of the industry, we knew we were rolling over double-digit comparable growth from 2015, so it was important to us to remain focused on our strategic growth avenues to maintain our momentum."

In 2015, the brand posted 10 percent same-store sales growth and it has averaged an 8 percent comparable sales growth since 2012, the news release said. The brand has worked to beef up its Latin positioning owhile focusing on millennials to maintain momentum going forward.

"Right now, millennials make up 64 percent of Pollo Campero's customer base and as we look ahead, we remain focused on understanding their evolving needs to deliver an attractive and relevant value proposition," International Brand Lead Federico Valiente, said in the news release.

Pulido said the brand is expanding in the U.S. with a goal of doubling the chain's size over the next three years. A news release said that among the company's biggest 2017 initiatives is working to boost its franchising pipeline and expand its franchise network in California, South Texas, New Jersey and Atlanta.

There are more than 350 Pollo Campero restaurants around the world.
