Popeyes is ready for some big expansion. The company announced Tuesday it will open more than 200 locations in the U.S. and Canada this year. The openings will bring the company to more than 3,000 domestic units, according to a press release.
Among the openings is a flagship location in New York City in Times Square set to open in June. The store will feature a modern design paying homage to its Cajun roots and Louisiana brand heritage, with features including self-order kiosks, a two-story food transporter for upstairs dining, digital order-ready boards and a merchandise store.
The Louisiana-style chicken chain said it plans to launch in several other countries, including South Korea, France, India and Romania. It will expand its presence in countries such as China, Spain, Brazil and Saudi Arabia.
The company said more than 50% of its restaurants to be built this year will feature a double drive-thru to serve increased traffic, boost speed of service, and ultimately further enhance the guest experience. Restaurants will begin to roll the new designs out starting with the first restaurant in Lafayette, Indiana.
