Popeyes Golf Classic tees off Thursday

May 10, 2011

The Seventh Annual Sailormen Inc., Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Golf Classic featuring top industry executives from around the country, will tee off May 12 at the Senator Course at Don Shula's Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

More than $130,000 is expected to be raised, boosted by the more than 20 companies helping with sponsorships.

"This is a great event, because so many of our corporate friends are involved and because it does so much to help an outstanding cause,'' said Bob Berg, Sailormen Inc., CEO.

Through the years, Sailormen Inc. has raised more than $2.5 million for the MDA with it's Golf Classic, plus innovative "Appetite for a Cure'' coupon book program.

In the first quarter of 2011, "Appetite for a Cure" raised $421,917 for MDA while rewarding loyal Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen clients with coupons for repeat visits to 143 Popeyes locations in seven states – Albama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi and Missouri.

The golf event is projected to raise more than $111,000, the record achieved in 2010.
