Popeyes planning Virginia, Connecticut locations

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is planning stores in Ashburn, Virginia, and Meriden, Connecticut, according to reports. The Burn reports a Popeyes is coming to the Commonwealth Center and at the Compass Creek development by the Leesburg Airport.

The Meriden, Connecticut, location will be on East Main Street, according to a Record-Journal report.

"I'm excited that Meriden is actually getting such a successful national brand, especially given there is a chain in Wallingford," City Council Majority Leader Sonja Jelks told the Record-Journal. "There have been many times we wanted Popeyes, it's nice to have one in our backyard."

Popeyes operates more than 2,700 restaurants in the U.S. and around the world. The company reported fiscal second quarter income of $391 million, up from $164 million. Its net sales rose 37% to $1.44 billion, according to the Record-Journal.
