Portion control top-of-mind, new report shows

BELLEVUE, Wash. According to a new report released by The Hartman Group, consumers areexhibiting a heightened interest in alternatives to large portions when dining out.
 
The report, "Portion Control from a Consumer Perspective", examines how American consumers view and respond to portion-control products and tactics across a wide array of eating, shopping and dining out occasions.
 
The report reveals that 84 percent of consumers agree with the notion that restaurants should offer a variety of portion sizes for each entrée. Additionally, 34 percent of consumers think fast-food chain portion sizes have increased over the past two years, and 19 percent of consumers think that chef-managed or fine-dining restaurants have reduced the size of their standard portions.
 
Results of the report are based on survey feedback fielded through Hartman Interactive in March 2007, with a sample size of 1,043 consumers.
