A number of quick-service employees from Chicago and other cities around the country are planning to travel to Ferguson, Missouri, this weekend for what they're calling "A Weekend of Resistance."
According to a press release from the Workers Organizing Committee of Chicago, a union of QSR and retail workers, these employees will host a "series of protests, rallies and events entitled 'Ferguson October: A Weekend of Resistance.'"
In addition to Chicago's coalition, QSR employees from Indianapolis, St. Louis, Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee, New Orleans, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, will also participate. The employees are specifically asking for an end to racial profiling and justice for Mike Brown, a teenager killed by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson in early August. The incident has sparked a number of protests that are still ongoing.
"I'm traveling to Ferguson to stand in solidarity with protesters from all over the nation and pay tribute to slain teenager Mike Brown, his family, and the Ferguson community," McDonald's employee Tyree Johnson said in the release. "We believe that everyone deserves basic dignity and respect, at work, in your community, and in all aspects of life."
