QSR ice cream brands ready for summer

Quick-service brands in the ice-cream segment are gearing up for the spring/summer season with a variety of new offerings and product giveaways. Here's a roundup of promotions:
Carvel low fat ice cream debuts
Carvel has introduced its latest treat: low fat ice cream. Now, any ice cream, novelty or cake at Carvel is available in a low fat option. The new low fat ice cream contains 75 percent less fat and 30 percent fewer calories than its regular desserts.
The new low fat ice cream is available in vanilla and chocolate soft serve, and is an available option for any Carvel treat such as any handmade cake and novelty creation.
To celebrate the new ice cream as well as the company's reimaging and rebranding program, Carvel will host a giveaway April 29. During the spring giveaway, guests can enjoy a free cup of the new low fat ice cream throughout the day. In addition, guests can choose to top their free treat with one of the brand's new Carvel Flavor Shotz flavorings at no charge.
The company's new brand image includes a new company logo to packaging and an animated Fudgie the Whale mascot. The 75-year-old ice cream chain also hopes to breathe new life into its 485 nationwide shoppes by implementing an updated operations plan to de-clutter, revitalize & refresh. Baskin-Robbins' fourth annual 31 Cent Scoop Night
Baskin-Robbins is celebrating its fourth annual 31 Cent Scoop Night celebration April 28 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at stores nationwide. During the customer appreciate event, the brand is reducing prices of its 2.5-ounce ice cream scoops to 31 cents. Additionally, Baskin-Robbins will again partner with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), and the Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation will donate $100,000 to the organization in an effort to extend support to heroes in the firefighting community.
Participating neighborhood Baskin-Robbins stores will support their local fire heroes by hosting hometown fire departments during 31 Cent Scoop Night to collect donations for their firehouses and scoop ice cream for fun.
Baskin-Robbins also is launching an interactive application exclusively on its Facebook fan page to allow fans to donate their Facebook status update to help spread the word about 31 Cent Scoop Night. Fans can use the application to pre-register to have their status automatically donated on April 28. The company also will provide updates via @BaskinRobbins on Twitter.
Maggie Moo's creates ice cream pizza
MaggieMoo's Ice Cream and Treatery recently launched its new twist on the ice cream cake, MaggieMia's Ice Cream Pizza. The "pizza" features a chocolate cake base topped with a layer of Udderly Cream ice cream spread with red icing. Various candies make up the toppings.
To promote the new product line and reward its customers, the company is offering a giveaway on Tax Day, April 15. Participating U.S. treateries will give away free slices of its new Ice Cream Pizza from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time while supplies last.
Cold Stone Creamery Gold Cone LTO varieties
Cold Stone Creamery recently launched its new limited-time only Gold Cone line of 10 new flavors for 2010. The collection will feature rotating flavors throughout the remaining months of the year, beginning with Oreo Creme Filling in April.
The first Gold Cone flavor, in stores starting today, is a recreation of the all time favorite: Oreo Creme Filling. Each Gold Cone flavor will be accompanied by a Cold Stone original Creation, and in some cases a cupcake, ice cream cake, pie, shake and/or smoothie.
Cold Stone's Oreo Creme Filling flavor also is featured as a cookie sandwich, named Double Stuf Oreo after the classic Oreo cookies.The Double Stuf Oreo cookie sandwich features Oreo Creme Filling ice cream nestled between two large Oreo wafers. The ice cream cookie sandwiches will be available in all stores nationwide as a four pack at a limited-time price of $8.99 through June 30.
 
Marble Slab online ice cream cake ordering
 
Marble Slab Creamery is promoting on its Web site ice cream cakes for upcoming summer holidays and special occasions with its Sweet Salutes campaign. Marble Slab offers online ordering for customers. First-time online customers use the locator feature to identify the location worldwide where they want to pick up the cake.
Marble Slab features a variety of specialty cakes, including Sweet Cream & Strawberries and Father's Day Golf Cake, as well as custom-made cakes. The Web site includes a detailed description of the cake and price.
Dairy Queen promos new Mini Blizzard, 25th anniversary
Dairy Queen is ramping up interest for its new mini-sized Blizzard treat, which will debut in August. To maintain the excitement, the brand has launched a mobile truck, the Blizzardmobile. The truck will travel to 25 cities across the United States and Canada to celebrate the Blizzard's 25th birthday and distribute more than 75,000 free newMini Blizzards. The new size is about half the size of a small 12-ounce Blizzard.  
Dairy Queen is using its Facebook page and Twitter feed to keep fans up to date on the Blizzardmobile's upcoming stops.
