QSRs among brands trying to predict presidential election
November 2, 2008
Detroit Free Press: The 2008 presidential campaign has its fill of brands holding fun polls to predict the outcome of the upcoming election. If pop culture is correct, Barack Obama will win on Tuesday.
Baskin-Robbins has held voting based on two special flavors. After nearly 500,000 people voted in-store and online, Obama claimed a 51 percent-49 percent victory over John McCain.
KFC has sold T-shirts online as well as at a few boutiques in Obama's and McCain's home states of Illinois and Arizona, respectively. The chain has sold several hundred shirts, with the "Left Wing" shirt was chosen by 41 percent of buyers, while the "Right Wing" version was at 29 percent. But 30 percent of buyers opted for the "Left Wing, Right Wing: Tastes the Same to Me" shirt.
