While some high profile brands, including Apple, are pausing or closing locations in Russia in response to the war against Ukraine, many U.S.-based QSRs and food services companies have kept Russia locations open.
That's despite increasing pressure from social media campaigns and investors to stop any business operations in Russia, according to a New York Times report.
McDonald's has not responded to New York Times' queries regarding Russia operations, and several other QSR brands, including Yum Brands, which owns KFC and Pizza Hut, have stated they are supporting efforts related to humanitarian relief.
One reason for the silence is that many of the fast food locations are run by local franchisees that may have ties to Russian banks or investors, according to the NYT.
Yum Brands, according to the NYT, released a statement that it is "monitoring the evolving situation very closely" and that it was too early to discuss the impact.
