McDonald's $5 value meal isn't going away at the end of the month. Instead, the Chicago-based burger chain will extend its $5 offering, according to a CNBC report.

The news agency obtained a memo to the U.S. system that said the value meal will extend the offering through August.

The meal, which features a McChicken or McDouble, four McNuggets, fries and a drink, launched at the end of June.

"Our message is resonating with our millions of customers. When our customers are ordering the $5 Meal Deal, they aren't visiting the competition, and early performance shows this deal is meeting the objective of driving guests back to our restaurants," Myra Doria, national field president, and Tariq Hassan, U.S. chief marketing and customer experience officer, wrote in the memo.

McDonald's declined to comment on the news.
