Rita's Italian Ice reveals contest winner, new flavor

TREVOSE, Pa. — After receiving almost 30,000 submissions in its online naming contest for its latest flavor, Rita's Italian Ice has announced that Little Falls, N.J., resident Linda Fegely is the contest winner. Fegely's winning name of RitaBerrious was selected by the company from among the top 10 submissions.
As the winner of the contest, Fegely will receive free Rita's Italian Ice for one year. In addition, the company will officially name the new flavor RitaBerrious in all of its more than 550 locations. The flavor's ingredients, kept secret until now, have also been released. RitaBerrious Italian Ice is a blend of elderberry and lime juice, plus blueberry, raspberry, strawberry and tea extracts.
The online contest began in March on the first day of spring. The contest included guests' visiting their local store and tasting the secret-flavored Italian Ice. Guests could either submit their suggested name for the flavor or vote for their favorite name submission at the company's Web site.
