Self-serve fro-yo Yogurtini kicks off franchising with Phoenix location

June 23, 2010

Start-up self-serve frozen yogurt brand Yogurtini has opened its second location, at 475 E. Bell Rd. in Phoenix. The new Yogurtini, the brand's first franchised store, is located in the Bell Towne Center and, like the original location, serves up to 16 rotating flavors and more than 65 toppings. On June 25, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Yogurtini will be giving out free self-serve frozen yogurt to celebrate.

Guests also can continue the brand's dedication to community philanthropy at the grand opening event by giving a donation for Ear Candy, a non-profit organization devoted to providing kids access to music education.

"We are so excited to be open and bring Yogurtini to our Phoenix residents," said Stan Kinworthy, owner of the Yogurtini franchise. "We decided to open a Yogurtini because of the premium yogurt, ingredients and toppings. We tried many different yogurt shops before we decided to open a Yogurtini franchise, and their product was high quality, healthy, and they didn't sacrifice any flavor. We are currently looking at opening two to three other shops in the valley and possibly out of state as well."

Originally established in Tempe, Ariz., in 2008 by Tempe natives and sisters, Natasha and Chelsey Nelson, Yogurtini Self-Serve features real yogurt that contains live and active cultures approved by the National Yogurt Association. Yogurtini regularly has classic flavors such as Ultimate Chocolate, Classic Vanilla, Chelsey's Cheesecake and Peanut Butter, as well as more adventurous offerings such as Northshore Pineapple Tart, Island Coconut and Green Apple Tart. The signature Yogurtini "House" Tart, along with a non-dairy and no-sugar-added frozen yogurt option, is always a mainstay.

Operating under its "serve-yo-self" slogan, Yogurtini's service model allows customers to grab a cup and start mixing flavors as well as visit the topping bar to add any or all of the toppings. The wide variety of toppings include granola, cereals and fresh fruits as well as a variety of candies, sprinkles and specialty items such as jalapenos and Sriracha hot sauce. After customers have filled their cups, they weigh their creation on a scale and pay for it by the ounce.

Yogurtini is open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight.

Yogurtini is seeking more franchise operators to open more locations. According to its website, new locations are scheduled to open soon in Scottsdale, Gilbert, Mesa and Glendale, Ariz., Tampa and Orlando, Fla., and Kansas City, Mo. Fans can follow the brand on MySpace, Facebook and Twitter.
