Sonic Drive-In has introduced "Super Crunch" chicken strips, available in 3-piece and 5-piece options.
"Texture and taste were our primary considerations as we explored new ways to appeal to the growing demand for chicken menu items," said Chef Claes Petersson, vice president of Product Innovation at Sonic. "The Super Crunch Chicken Strips are double-breaded, giving them a crispy crunch, which adds more flavor. Combined with the juicy and tender chicken on the inside, these two textures work together for a new kind of chicken strip experience that is great for a full meal or as a snack."
The strips are available with any of Sonic's sauces, including buttermilk ranch, honey mustard and hickory BBQ. The company claims the item will not lose its crunchy texture from dipping.
The Super Crunch Chicken Strips are available all day for a limited time.
Top franchisees awarded
Sonic also recently presented the Troy Smith Hall of Fame Award to franchisees Linda and Dennis Clark of Encore Restaurants Inc. at its annual convention in San Diego. Named after Sonic's founder, the Troy Smith Award is given to a franchisee that has worked with the company for a noteworthy duration and has made a significant contribution in terms of leadership, growth, positive influence and brand image, according to a news release.
Linda and Dennis Clark started at Sonic in 1986. CEO Clifford Hudson said they exhibit "excellence and tremendous enthusiasm for the brand, and above all, they genuinely care about people."
Based in Grapevine, Texas, Encore Restaurants Inc. owns and operates 39 Sonic Drive-Ins in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Partners also honored
Sonic also presented Lifetime Service Awards to S&S Promotions Inc. and Charlie Haywood, director of sales - Food Fountain Service of Dr Pepper Snapple Group at the convention. The Lifetime Service Award winners are those that have made a significant investment in the brand.
A company news release said S&S Promotions Inc. has an ability to "change and evolve from a screen printing company to a digital company to an idea company, making it an ideal partner." S&S was credited for improving the chain's menu production process, resulting in a streamlined menu ordering system.
Haywood received the award for his longtime service to the brand. He was credited for spearheading the Dr Pepper Sonic Games, which is used to motivate restaurant crews across the system.
"The S&S Promotions team and Charlie Haywood are exemplary partners to Sonic, and each deserve this award for always going above and beyond to not only meet, but exceed our expectations," said Jim Lebs, vice president, Supply Chain for Sonic Corp.
