This week, Sonic has challenged a trio of TikTok food hackers to create the drive-in's menu items, only using ingredients from competing fast-food or convenience stores, a news release said.
Newton Nguyen (@newt), Nicole Renard (@nicole_thenomad) and Kena Peay (@kenapeay) are vying for title rights in the "Hack Our Menu" challenge, where they are challenged to recreate Sonic's onion rings, footlong quarter-pound Coney and cherry limeade, respectively. The idea behind the campaign is to drive home the point that Sonic's style of food is one-of-a-kind and can't be duplicated at other brands.
"I take on food challenges all the time, and normally they turn out pretty good. But this one – this one kind of stumped me," Nguyen said.
Beginning this Tuesday on the social media channel, Nguyen will take the challenge, followed by Renard on Thursday and Peay on Saturday, the three will show and compare their re-creations.
"Watching these three valiantly try to concoct some of our most unique menu items was a funny and entertaining," Sonic CMO Lori Abou Habib, said in the release. "For nearly 70 years, Sonic has made its mark as a distinctive destination for entrées, drinks and sides you just can't find anywhere else. This TikTok challenge just goes to show that when you really want Sonic, nothing else will do."
Sonic, founded in 1953, is the largest drive-in restaurant brand in the United States with more than 3,500 restaurants in 46 states.
