Sonic coupons boost American Red Cross donor campaign

March 24, 2009

TULSA, Okla. — The American Red Cross and Sonic Corp. have announced the successful conclusion to their two-month "It takes two" campaign. The promotion, which ran in January and February, put two Sonic coupons into the hands of more than 100,000 blood donors across a seven state Red Cross division and encouraged blood donors to give two times this year, bring two friends or host two blood drives.

The campaign originated out of an effort by the Red Cross to find community partners to help raise awareness of the on-going need for blood. It marked the first time a promotion has been conducted across the entire Red Cross South Central division. Sonic coupons were distributed to nearly all of the more than 3,300 blood drives conducted by the division in the first two months of 2009.

"During some of the most difficult months to collect blood, Sonic Corp. agreed to help the Red Cross," said Darren Irby, Red Cross Division marketing director. "Since Sonics are in virtually every community where we host drives, we were very grateful to Sonic's franchisees and corporate employees across our regions for partnering with us."

Based on the success of this first promotion, Red Cross and Sonic Corp. plan to host a second installment of "It takes two."
