Sonic 'drives in' to the Last Frontier

Sonic Drive-In will open its first Alaskan location later this year under the ownership of Larry Clark and Cameron Johnson on East Parks Highway in Wasilla, a news release said. .

"Alaska has long been on our development wish list, and we're pleased to have found a strong franchisee group to build the brand in the state," Sonic Vice President of Development and Construction Johnny Jones, said in the release. "We're confident the brand will do well in Alaska, bringing a unique menu and dining experience to this new community under the leadership of two locals."

With a convenient double drive-thru, indoor dining room and drive-in stalls, the new location offers all kinds off ways to order and fetch the brand's food. 

"I once joked with my wife that I would buy her a Sonic Drive-In after she asked for a Cherry Limeade and later this year, this will flourish into reality," Clark commented in the release. "I grew up in the south where Sonic is a way of life. Alaska has been my home for 13 years now, and I can't wait to introduce my community to this brand I know and love."

Sonic offers franchisees multiple drive-in formats to accommodate weather, location and traffic, including the traditional model with 12 to 18 stalls and a drive-thru, as well as conversions, existing restaurant building renovations, a counter service model, existing indoor space customizable footprints and indoor dining formats. The brand now has more than 3,600 locations.
