Sonic hones in on operations with crew competition

August 6, 2014

Sonic's annual Dr. Pepper Sonic Games is down to the final 12 teams that will compete at the chain's national convention in New Orleans. The teams have been competing for the past nine months.

The remaining crews will compete in final events on Sept. 7 and Sept. 8, and the top three crews, as well as the top individual station champions, will be recognized at an awards ceremony at the end of the week.

"The Dr. Pepper Sonic Games are an integral part of our training program, adding a level of gamification and individual recognition that motivates our most passionate and enthusiastic crews to push themselves all year long for the chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to our national convention for the finals," COO Omar Janjua said in a news release. "After two days of final events, the crews get to simply enjoy themselves in New Orleans and get to know each other. It's great for team-building and lets us show them how much we truly appreciate their dedication to top-notch customer service and the Sonic brand."

The competition tests crewmembers' expertise in the areas of Carhop (food delivery), Fountain (drink preparation), Switchboard (order taking), Food Dresser, Grill and Swamp (food preparation).

The final 12 crews are from the following markets:

  • Aiken, S.C.
  • Boise, Idaho
  • El Paso, Texas
  • Evans, Ga.
  • Little Rock, Ark.
  • Nampa, Idaho
