Sonic said it's the first brand to allow customers to connect to its app on mobile devices by asking Alexa, now that the Alexa Skill thas been added to the virtual assistant's repertoire, according to a news release.
To get started, customers who make requests via Alexa's app, built-in phone or Alexa mobile accessories can say, "Alexa, open Sonic," then ask for a nearby location or what's new on the menu. Those requests will take them directly to the information.
"Alexa for Apps is a natural fit for our mobile strategy as we are always on the lookout for new ways that technology can help us serve our millions of devoted fans better," Kim Lewis, Sonic vice president of Digital Strategies, said in the release. "Hungry consumers make choices quickly and asking Alexa on their mobile device to find nearby Sonic locations and discover new menu items removes friction from the process. In the future, we plan to build on our new custom skill."
Sonic, based in Oklahoma City, has more than 3,500 restaurants in 46 states.
