Sonic Drive-In has partnered with Reese's Book Club, a part of Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine, to support local schools across the country. The QSR brand will match up to $1 million in donations to classroom projects on DonorsChoose, an education nonprofit that allows the public to donate directly to public school classroom requests submitted by teachers, according to a press release.
Beginning Aug. 9, the Sonic Foundation will provide up to $100,000 to match donations to classroom projects requesting books at Equity Focus Schools in celebration of Book Lovers' Day. Every public donation made on that day to reading-related projects on the DonorsChoose platform will receive a dollar-for-dollar match from Reese's Book Club and the Sonic Foundation, while funding lasts.
Starting Tuesday, Aug. 15, the Sonic Foundation will celebrate National Back to School Prep Day by providing up to $900,000 to match donations to classroom projects on the DonorsChoose platform in Sonic markets. Every public donation made starting that day to projects submitted by teachers in Sonic markets will receive a 50% boost from the SONIC Foundation, while funding lasts.
"With Reese's Book Club, we know firsthand that books are powerful agents of change and we're dedicated to paying it forward through donations that promote reading and literacy," Sarah Harden, CEO of Hello Sunshine, said in the press release. "This Book Lovers' Day, our partnership with the Sonic Foundation will fund school projects that both advance literacy and empower students and teachers to embrace the power of reading."
Sonic also donated a portion of its sales from every drink, slush and shake to its Sonic Foundation to support local public education.
"Sonic's dedication to supporting education through our Limeades for Learning program is a core pillar of our business and the transition into a new school year is a crucial window in setting students and teachers up for success," Kim Lewis, vice president of brand experience for Sonic, said in the press release. "We hope that Sonic guests will join us this month in our commitment to brighten the lives of educators, students and families across our Sonic communities by donating to a classroom request on DonorsChoose, or simply by enjoying their favorite SONIC drink, as a portion of the purchase will go towards supporting nearby public schools."
Sonic operates more than 3,500 restaurants in 46 states.
