October 22, 2013

Sonic Corp.'s fourth quarter results, announced Monday, include a same-store sales increase of 5.9 percent systemwide. Franchised locations were up 6 percent, while company-owned drive-ins were up 5.2 percent.

On the year, systemwide same-store sales increased 2.3 percent, consisting of a 2.3 percent same-store sales increase at franchise drive-ins and an increase of 2.5 percent at company drive-ins.

"Strong same-store sales during our summer quarter highlighted the strength and momentum of our business," said CEO Cliff Hudson. "As we look to fiscal year 2014, we will continue to focus on key initiatives such as increased media effectiveness, our innovative product pipeline and layered day-part promotional strategy to continue to drive same-store sales growth and, in turn, margin improvement."

Initiatives in 2014 include customer service improvement, value perception/product quality improvement and new technology investments that enhance the guest experience, Hudson added. The latter plan includes new digital point-of-purchase technology and a new POS system.
