As we head ever closer to the dog days of summer, McDonald's is turning up the heat just a few notches at its Southern California locations with a smattering of sriracha sauce across its menu, according to a news release.
The chain's 600-plus locations in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties are featuring a limited time offer this summer based around that spicy Thai sauce — further proof of the country's growing love affair with all things imbued with natural heat.
Aside from a Sriracha Big Mac, the limited-time offerings also include items like the Signature Sriracha sandwich with crispy onions, as well as other ingredients of the moment like white cheddar, spinach and kale. Signature crafted recipes were first introduced late last year at McDonald's as part of the chain's Taste Crafted menu that capitalizes on giving customers lots of choices.
For instance, diners can select from either beef or chicken, which they can then pair with different bread choices, as well as four flavor combinations, including sriracha, pico guacamole, maple bacon dijon and deluxe. Protein offerings can be grilled or in the case of a chicken selection, breaded. Then diners can also choose whether they want their combinations placed on artisan, sesame seed or new potato-based breads.
"Summer is about enjoying delicious, bold flavors and we are kicking off the season by adding the popular sriracha flavor to the menu," said Clay Paschen III, president, McDonald's Operators' Association of Southern California. "Blended with our Big Mac special sauce, we hope the addition of the Signature Sriracha Recipe will give guests a new way to enjoy their favorite sandwiches."
This latest offering is part of a renewed push at the Southern California locations of the chain to give customers more choices in everything from the standard Big Mac to breakfast bowls and parfaits.
