Specialty seasonal drinks added to McDonald's McCafe lineup

November 7, 2011

McDonald's USA has added two new beverages to its McCafe beverage line – Peppermint Mocha and Peppermint Hot Chocolate.

The drinks are the brand's first specialty seasonal beverages on the McCafe menu. They are available from now through Jan. 2.

McCafe Peppermint Mocha is a blend of smooth espresso, dark chocolate syrup, a hint of peppermint and steamed milk, topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. Customers can also get into the holiday spirit with a McCafe Peppermint Hot Chocolate.

Both beverages are customizable, and available with a choice of whole or nonfat milk, and with or without the whipped cream topping.

"Beverages now represent more than 20 percent of sales for McDonald's USA, so it's becoming increasingly important to add new and unique beverage options to the McDonald's menu," said Marta Fearon, McCafe Marketing Director, McDonald's USA. "With the introduction of the decadent Peppermint Mocha and Peppermint Hot Chocolate, we are pleased to provide customers with a flavorful taste experience that is perfect for the holiday season."

McDonald's turns in another strong month

McDonald's Corp. has also announced global comparable sales growth of 5.5 percent in October. Performance by segment was as follows:

  • United States up 5.2 percent;
  • Europe up 4.8 percent; and
  • Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa up 6.1 percent.

"The ongoing strength of our results reflects the power of our customer-focused plan, supported by actions that enhance the relevance of the brand," said Jim Skinner, CEO of McDonald's Corp.

In the United States, the Monopoly game promotion and featured products, including the Big Mac, Chicken McNuggets, Fruit & Maple Oatmeal and McCafe beverages, were key drivers for the month.

Europe's increase in comparable sales was driven by performance in France, Russia and the United Kingdom. The segment continued to benefit from locally-relevant menu choices, promotional food events, everyday value options and reimaged restaurants.

Comparable sales in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa increased 6.1 percent for the month led by Australia, China and Japan. APMEA's results were driven by convenience, unique daypart value platforms and a balance of core and local offerings.

Systemwide sales for the month increased 7.7 percent, or 7.6 percent in constant currencies.
