St Louis fast food workers join strike

Following the lead of  Chicago and New York City, St. Louis is the latest city to see fast-food workers walk off the job in demand of better pay and working conditions. More than 100 people at about 30 St. Louis restaurants Thursday held street protests dubbbed as the "St. Louis Can't Survive on $7.35," campaign, according to Sttoday.com.

"We can't survive on this kind of pay," Kenta Jackson of Pagedale told the newspaper. She was on strike from a Church's Chicken in the Delmar Loop. "We're working 40 hours a week and we still need to be on government assistance."

Protestors outside a Wendy's on Manchester Road in Rock Hill chaned, "We want change, and we don't mean pennies ..."

Managers inside the restaurant talked on cellphones, while other line workers prepared for lunch, according to the newspaper. It took 40 minutes for the first customer to show up, and was ushered in by a red-shirted manager standing outside, telling customers they were welcome.
