Statue of KFC's Colonel Sanders found in Osaka river
March 10, 2009
The Japan Times: The upper half of a statue of Kentucky Fried Chicken founder and mascot Colonel Sanders has been pulled from the bottom of the Dotonbori River in central Osaka, Japan, after nearly a quarter of a century.
The statue, similar to ones found at most Japanese KFC units, was found during cleanup work for laying a paved path along the river. It was thrown into the river in 1985 by baseball fans overjoyed that the Hanshin Tigers had won the Central League championship for the first time in 21 years — and for its resemblance to an American player on the team.
