Fred DeLuca, co-founder of Subway died Monday at age 67, according to Bloomberg.
In 2013, Subway reps told the newspaper that DeLuca was receiving treatment for leukemia, and in June, his sister, Suzanne Greco, took over his role of president.
In 1965, the then-17-year-old Fred DeLuca and his partner, Peter Buck, opened the first restaurant, which they had called, Pete’s Super Submarines unit in Bridgeport, Connecticut, according to the article. The duo began franchising in 1974, and eventually changed the name to Subway.
DeLuca had a net worth of $3.5 billion, ranking him 259th in the U.S., according to Forbes magazine.
