Subway said this week it has "reimagined" its communications function with new talent hired to lead four key strategic areas, including corporate and employee communications, field communications, brand public relations and multimedia, according to a news release.

"As we embark on a quest to build a better Subway, we've reimagined the communications function to best serve the brand's transformation," Lori Christou, vice president, public relations, communications and public affairs, said in the release. She was hired in December 2020 to lead the communications function changes. "In addition to welcoming a talented team of communication leaders, the new team enables us to be better storytellers, better educators, and create better connections with our vast franchisee network, guests and employees."

Among the members of the Public Relations and Communications team are:

  • Alyssa Goldfarb, senior director, corporate communications.
  • Brad Simon, senior director, brand public relations.
  • Trent Stafford, director, field communications.
  • Rafael Sangiovanni, director, multimedia services.

Goldfarb joins Subway with more than 15 years of experience in corporate communications, working across a variety of industries. Most recently, she served as the director of communications and public relations for MSC Cruises, overseeing communications efforts in the U.S., including media relations, crisis and reputation management, executive positioning and trade communications.

Simon was previously working at Inspire Brands, where he oversaw brand communications strategy and managed public relations across Inspire's portfolio, including Arby's, Buffalo Wild Wings and Jimmy John's, as well as serving as the organization's international communications lead.

Stafford was formerly at McDonald's, where he spent four years on the communications and brand engagement team and led public relations programs.

Sangiovanni was formerly with integrated marketing agency rbb Communications, where he spearheaded, strategized and produced digital activations for clients like DHL, AMResorts, Cleveland Clinic and Chopin Vodka.
