Subway plans to double Egyptian outlets

Subway Restaurants in Egypt is on track to double its footprint in 2011 and to also open a network of 90 locations by 2017.

The Subway brand was revitalized in Egypt in March 2009 in the Maadi region. Three more units opened in 2010.

"The Subway concept has received popular acceptance from the Egyptian community due to our relentless focus on the importance of a balanced diet. Our initiative to promote a healthier lifestyle with complementary food options has driven our expansion rate in the country on an unprecedented fast track," said Hesham Karama, Subway's development agent in Egypt.

The chain is currently developing new stores in Heliopolis (Marghany) and in Rehab City.

Subway aims to set up additional outlets at the Cairo Festival City, Sun City Mall, New Cairo, Alexandria-Cairo main desert road, 6th October district, as well as Mohandesein, Alexandria and Hurghada.

The Subway chain recently became the largest sandwich franchise in the Arab world with more than 250 restaurants in the regoin. It currently boasts 106 stores in the United Arab Emirates, 44 each in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, 17 in Qatar, 11 each in Jordan and Bahrain, nine in Oman, four in Egypt and five in Lebanon.
