Subway plans to open 3,000 restaurants this year

May 19, 2014

Subway, which turned in record breaking growth in 2013, is expecting to open about 3,000 new locations worldwide this year.

"Location, location, location is still the mantra," John Devine, director of Subway Real Estate, said in a news release. "We continue to provide our customers with convenient locations to enjoy our great menu offerings.  At the same time, we continue to offer landlords and developers a proven, stable and trusted tenant for their real estate."

Chris Kan, training and business promotion specialist, said many of the openings will be in traditional shopping centers, as well as nontraditional venues such as hospitals, colleges and airports.

"From 300 to 2,000 square feet, Subway restaurants come in all shapes and sizes. Because of the chain's unique business model, which has minimal equipment and space requirements, a Subway restaurant can operate just about anywhere,” Kan said in the release.

Subway currently has more than 41,800 locations worldwide with restaurants open in 105 countries.
