Subway reaches 5K milestone with Lima c-store opening

Subway Restaurants has reached its latest non-traditional franchise development milestone with the opening of its 5,000th convenience store/truck stop location in Lima, Peru.

Subway Restaurants has reached its latest non-traditional franchise development milestone with the opening of its 5,000th convenience store/truck stop location in Lima, Peru, reflecting its ability to adapt its concept to local community opportunities, the company said in an announcement.

Subway's global footprint includes the following:

  • Subway now has 10,498 (nearly 25 percent) restaurants open that fall into the non-traditional category, including these unique settings:
    • 597 Colleges and universities
    • 126 Grocery stores
    • 293 Hospitals
    • 263 Departments stores
    • 1,956 Wal-Mart locations
    • 201 Airports
  • With the opening of 2,609 locations in the past year, Subway has added approx. 22,000 new jobs through Subway franchisees, bringing Subway's international number to around 434,000 jobs
  • Subway has over 43,800 restaurants open in 110 countries
  • Within the past year, the 30,000th North American restaurant was opened – located on the campus of George Mason University in Virginia

The company also announced it added guacamole to its nationwide menu for a limited time only. It is made with Haas avocados, jalapeño peppers, onion, garlic, salt and vinegar.
