Subway rolls out new chicken sub, yogurt parfait

August 14, 2011

Today, Subway rolled out a new Oven Crisp Chicken sub for a limited time. The sandwich will be available until Sept. 30.

The white meat chicken is tossed in seasoned breading and baked to a crisp, to emulate a fried taste but without the fat. A 6-inch sandwich has 7 grams of fat and is served on Subway's new fortified bread.

"Oven Crisp Chicken offers the same crispy flavor with fewer calories and significantly less fat," said Subway Dietitian Lanette Kovachi. "We are proud of the fact that we do not use deep fryers at Subway. The Oven Crisp Chicken is a great way to enjoy a tasty breaded chicken sandwich without the calories and fat of a traditional fried chicken sandwich."

The chain has also launched a new yogurt parfait, part of its Fresh Fit menu and available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The item consists of low-fat vanilla yogurt layered with strawberries, blueberries and topped with granola.

The parfait is prepared fresh in-store, and has 160 calories and 2 grams of fat per serving.

Subway honors top franchisees, development agents

The Subway restaurant chain has named 12 franchisees as recipients of its 2011 Franchisee of the Year awards and three members of its development community as recipients of its Development Agent of the Year awards during the company's convention in San Francisco last week.

Subway's Franchisee of the Year awards are presented to the overall winners of the multi-unit and single unit owner categories from North America and the chain's international emerging and developed markets. Selected from among the chain's more than 17,000 franchisees from around the world, the recipients are:

  • Joe Franch of Rochester, N.Y. and Steve Stewart of Buffalo, N.Y.;
  • Blake Newton of Gunnison, Utah;
  • Ismail Mohammad of Lynnwood, Wash.;
  • Jennifer Smith and Julie Jansen of Cobar, Australia;
  • Neil Garnett of Innisfail, Australia;
  • Andre Lima Dos Santos of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;
  • Carolina Ugalde Olavarria of Huechuraba, Chile;
  • Abdul Almutairi of Sharq, Kuwait; and
  • Pavel Andrianov and Yury Gurgov of Moscow, Russia.

Competing among 53 regional finalists, the Franchisees of the Year are honored for accomplishments such as adding new stores, building sales and increasing profitability, while also achieving excellent store evaluations.

Subway's Development Agents provide local franchisees with support and are responsible for building and managing geographical territory.

Selected from many candidates in the U.S., Canada and the chain's developed and emerging markets, Development Agents of the Year are Abdul Almutairi of Sharq, Kuwait; Ivan Todorov of Varna, Bulgaria; and Tom Nolen of Nashville, Tenn.
