Subway settles Calif. overcharging dispute
December 21, 2008
Marin Independent Journal: Prosecutors in Marin and two other California counties have announced a $645,000 settlement with Subway over complaints of overcharging and misleading advertising.
Prosecutors filed the civil action in Marin Superior Court against Doctors Associates Inc., the franchisor of Subway restaurants, and the Subway Franchisee Advertising Fund Trust, which provides advertising to the restaurants, after customers reported that advertised promotions were not being properly honored at the counter.
The company will establish a Web site and an 800 number through which consumers can claim one of 142,000 $2 gift cards.
