Issa Salman, chairman, Subway Raleigh Franchisee Board. said the board asked MSA, its advertising agency, to create an event to coincide with spokesman Jared Fogle's visit to the state fair, as part of his nationwide ‘Tour de Pants' campaign celebrating his 10-year anniverary as the company spokesperson.
Jared Fogle, who lost more than 245 pounds by eating Subway sandwiches and exercising, is on a year-long tour promoting 10 years of keeping the weight off. At the end of 2008, his original size-60-inch waist pants will be "retired" and inducted into the new Advertising Icon Museum slated to open in spring of 2009. Jared is also raising awareness of childhood obesity and funds for The Jared Foundation that, in part, helps to educate children on how to make smart nutrition and exercise choices.
Contestants have until Oct. 7 to enter. The top 20 will be selected by the highest online star rating and quantity of ratings, as determined by people voting online for their favorite dancer. A judging panel will narrow the field to five, who will be invited to perform their dance at the NC State Fair's Subway Restaurant Day, Oct. 22 at 2:30 p.m. at the Waterfall Stage.
In addition, the finalists will attempt to perform their dance in a pair of Jared's 60" waist jeans. Jared will emcee the event, and the winner will receive the following prizes:
- A year's supply of Subway sandwiches
- Wii by Nintendo
- Wii Fit by Nintendo
- A signed pair of Jared's 60-inch pants.
