Subway to co-sponsor collegiate Rugby Sevens tournament
May 11, 2010
Subway Restaurants and Bud Light have joined the pitch as sponsors of the first-ever USA 7's Rugby Collegiate Championship Invitational, which will be broadcast live on NBC from Columbus Crew Stadium June 5-6 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Eastern time. Universal Sports also will carry the broadcast on those days from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Eastern time.
The USA 7's Rugby Collegiate Championship Invitational is a Rugby Sevens tournament featuring 16 historically significant collegiate rugby teams and will serve as a preview of the talent pool for the 2016 U.S. Olympic team.
As sponsors of the USA 7's Rugby Collegiate Championship Invitational, Subway Restaurants and Bud Light will retain exclusive category rights, receive signage throughout the stadium — including on-field — as well as commercial spots during the live broadcast and pre-promotional TV spots leading up to the event. They also will have digital presence online at NBCSports.com and USASevensCCI.com.
The tournament will serve as a platform for Subway to showcase its new line of breakfast sandwiches, and Anheuser-Busch will be represented by the Bud Light brand.
Rugby Sevens features seven players per team playing on the same size pitch as a 15's match. In 2016, Rugby Sevens will be an Olympic sport and the USA 7's Rugby Collegiate Championship Invitational offers fans a preview of the talent pool available for the U.S. Olympic team.
The USA 7's Rugby Collegiate Championship Invitational features 16 Division I collegiate traditional powers, including Arizona, Arizona State, Army, Bowling Green, Cal, Dartmouth, Florida, Harvard, Indiana, Navy, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, San Diego State, Tennessee and Utah.
