Subway to plant flag in Kenya

April 9, 2013

Subway announced its plans to debut in Kenya as early as August. According to Business Daily Africa, the Connecticut-based chain is focused on the market because of a growing middle class and consumer spending opportunities.

At least two new units are expected to open by the end of the year by franchisee Liberty Eagle. CJ Bak, director of the franchisee, said the goal is to open 20 stores throughout the next seven years.

Liberty Eagle currently has six Subway restaurants in Tanzania.

According to story, Kenya's hotel and restaurants sector has grown at an average rate of 5.9 percent in the past three years to about $240 million U.S. in 2011.
