From a product test behind the doors of a mock storefront in the barbecue capital of Austin, Texas, to the 13-hour slow-smoking process, Subway has gone all out on its latest LTO that launches nationwide today — the Naturally Pit-Smoked Brisket sandwich.
The brisket on this offering requires a 13-hour bath in smoke, the brand said in its press release, before being portioned onto a sub sandwich bun, then topped with slices of smoked cheddar barbeque sauce. In fact, the brand had so much faith in the authenticity of its new sandwich that recently it created a mock storefront under the name of "Monty's Smokehouse" in Austin, to give the barbecue afficienados in that city a taste of what it presented as the new restaurant's featured sandwich, as you can see in this video of the effort.
Subway Chief Brand and Innovation Officer Len Van Popering said the brand worked closely with some of the nation's top pit masters to create the sandwich.
"Our naturally pit-smoked brisket is the real deal," Van Popering said in the release. "We collaborated with some of the most talented pit masters in the country to create a one-of-a-kind taste experience that features the unmistakable flavor that comes from using real smoke and freshly baked bread."
Subway said this morning that the sandwich is available through Nov. 6 and there are currently no plans to make it a permanent menu item.
"As always, we evaluate guests' reactions to new menu offerings and are consistently evaluating our menu, both core items and our limited time offers," Van Popering said in an email.
