Sweet Tea-light: Chick-fil-A sets Guinness record

August 4, 2010

Chick-fil-A gave "super size" a whole new meaning on Wednesday, setting a Guinness World Record by creating the world's largest sweet iced tea.

The 9-foot-tall cup held more than 1,140 gallons of sweet tea, with ice.

The record was set during an event held in Broken Arrow, Okla., and was the brainchild of Tulsa Chick-fil-A operator Arthur Greeno.

Employees from five nearby Chick-fil-A restaurants worked with area volunteers to create the record-setter. The drink required 72 pounds of tea leaves, 1,150 pounds of sugar, 1 ton of ice and 912 gallons of water.

Kimberly Partrick, an official Guinness adjudicator, called the record.

This is the second Guinness acknowledgment for Greeno, who set a record for the world's largest soft drink in 2008 by creating an 834-gallon cup of Chick-fil-A lemonade.

Chick-fil-A Kid's Meal program is partnering with Guinness to challenge children across the U.S. to set their own records this summer. A series of five activity-filled Guinness World Records packs are available in kid's meals until Aug. 28.

Each pack features "Do Try This at Home" challenges, intended to promote family and friend interaction.
