Swimmer Michael Phelps signs on as Subway spokesman

MILFORD, Conn. — Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps will be representing Subway restaurants all marketing channels in a long-term partnership with the chain, the company announced. Phelps joins a list of athlete partners that have included Michael Strahan, Ryan Howard, Kimmie Meissner, Tony Parker, Laila Ali and Reggie Bush.
Phelps made history this summer in Beijing when he became the only athlete to win eight Olympic gold medals at a single Games. He also holds the record for the most gold medals won by any athlete with a record 14.
Subway will unveil Phelps' first commercial appearance for the brand in early 2009.
