Taco Bell celebrates global growth this National Taco Day

September 20, 2018

In honor of National Taco Day Oct. 4, Taco Bell is bringing back its $5 giftset along with celebrations of the U.S. "holiday" at the brand's worldwide locations, a news release said.

"Holidays certainly differ across the globe, but we know that a celebration of taco love is nearly universal," Global Chief Brand Officer Marisa Thalberg, said in the release. "National Taco Day has become a beloved tradition in the United States, and it is our honor to help translate that tradition to our friends around the world."

Some of the global goings-on include free exclusive merchandise with taco purchases in Australia and free tacos with orders in Sri Lanka. The brand started pushing into new markets last year including the two aforementioned countries, as well as China, the Netherlands, Finland, Peru and Romania.

The brand is also airing its National Taco Day story, "Glen and the Magic Taco," featuring founder Glen Bell from now through Oct. 4. It's also offering National Taco Day T-shirt online on the day itself.

Of the chain's 7,000 locations, more than 400 operate in 27 countries outside of the United States, with the goal of expanding the brand's international presence to 1,000 restaurants by 2022.
