Taco Bell, Gizmoz to launch 'avatarsment'

IRVINE, Calif. — Taco Bell has teamed with Gizmoz.com to create an "avatarsment" for the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 9, 2007. The consumer-generated ad will feature life-like avatars — or virtual actors — of real Taco Bell consumers promoting the company's Fourthmeal late-night dining.
 
Taco Bell received more than 1,400 auditions in less than two weeks for its "TV Me!" contest. Using Gizmoz.com's photorealistic avatars, consumers auditioned by uploading a digital photograph and developing a three-dimensional likeness of themselves. Virtual actor hopefuls could record their voices for the 15-second, lip-synched audition.
