Taco Bell responds to customers with New Year's resolutions

January 4, 2017

Taco Bell is kicking off 2017 with a series of "resolutions" to its customers and employees, reflecting the kind of brand responsiveness increasingly demanded by today's younger customer segments. Here are the changes and other pledges the brand said it vows to keep from here on out, according to a news release:

"Out with the old" ... as in items U.S. customers say they don't want or need, including:

  • Extra large soda cups.
  • All chicken raised with critical human antibiotics in 2017.
  • Preservatives and additives in menu items, where possible by 2018.
  • An additional 10 percent in menu for a total reduction by 2025 of 25 percent from 2008 levels.

"In with the new" ... as in items U.S. customers demand now, including:

  • Only cage-free eggs in core menu items, like avocado ranch, creamy jalapeno, habanero and chipotle sauces by Jan. 1, 2018.
  • New restaurant concepts and packaging that use less energy, more reclaimed materials and sustainable landscape features.
  • $1.3 million for gigger, better Live Más Scholarship program.
  • 100,000 U.S. jobs by 2022.
  • Expanded employee education and training offerings.
  • Commitment to hire 1.5 million young adults over the next 10 years.

The brand said it will also retain cost-saving menu items to help customers maintain their budgets, including the continuation of the $1 All Day Menu and $5 Box.
