Tenn. legislature overrides menu labeling veto

Tennessee lawmakers have overturned Gov. Phil Bredesen's veto of a bill in order to limit local authority of menu labeling regulations, according to The Tennessean.
Last year, the Nashville Board of Health adopted a menu labeling regulation that would have required chains with 15 or more outlets nationwide to post calorie counts next to food items on menus. The measure was scheduled to go into effect next month.
Lawmakers overrode the governor's veto of their bill to limit menu labeling authority because they said taking the process out of the hands of elected officials left votes with no voice, and because of cost concerns for restaurants.
