The dawn of your 'friendly' restaurant robot?

June 27, 2019

Autonomous retail robotic application company, Quartile 3 Robotics, this week released a robot that it said is designed to solve QSR industry issues around labor costs and consumer convenience and speed-of-service demands.

The company points out in its press release that the robot offers a more engaging alternative to the kiosk platforms many QSRs have or are planning to install since Quartile 3's robot converses "intelligently," with humans, according to the company.

The Q3 Order Bot uses the company's Natural Language Processing Software and AI to chat with diners, which the company said is superior to chatbot interfaces which its says rely on basic question-and-answer trees. Instead, the Q3 Bot is programmed to understand and learn human verbal speech patterns.

"The spoken language is riddled with shortcuts, implied nouns and subject matters," Quartile 3 Robotics President and CEO Carl Sconnely said in the release. "Our AI can decipher and understand the true intent of the sentence giving it the ability to converse and record an order as if it were a human."

QSRweb spoke with Quartile 3 Robotics spokeswoman Traeanne Reynolds, who said after the launch this week, they've already received a lot of interest.

"We just launched the robot this past week ... but already have prospects in the highly interested phase," she said.  "The technology lowers labor costs, increases the rate of service, upsells items and attracts customers with its futuristic technology."
